Port Charlotte 13yo TBWC Bottling Note
Yummy peated single malt whisky from the Isle of Islay's Bruichladdich distillery, aged for 13 years before being bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company. But how dothey make their whisky smoky - scientifically? Well, the Phenol, O-Cresol, M-Cresol, P-Cresol and Guaiacolmolecules that make up the phenolic compounds in peated whisky all play their part, hence why they're featured front and centre on the label!
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose: A phenolic opening drifts over a sweet, malty backdrop of barley sugar, butterscotch and golden syrup. Through aromas of sea-washed rocks there’s touches of vanilla syrup, dry crystallised ginger and a slight peppery agave note.
Palate: A bonfire of phenol notes cover an oily palate, with heavy oak char and thick peat smoke rising highest. A concoction of ripe black fruits, steamed treacle pudding and a little citric element bring complex, sweet depth. A salty, mineral lick element takes hold of the backdrop.
Finish: Peppery spice and carry through, but leave generous room for sweet and syrupy aniseed.
Overall: An enticing phenolic festival that strikes a precise balance between big smoke and rich flavour.
