Finger Lime Gin - TBGC Bottling Note
Finger Lime Gin from That Boutique-y Gin Company is pretty straightforward. You take the awesomeness of finger limes (they come from Australia and their texture is a bit like caviar) and combine said awesomeness with gin. Keep it simple, and also delicious.
What isn't so simple is the classification of finger limes. Despite their name, some people don't consider them to be citrus at all. According to the Swingle system, they're a Microcitrus, which is a related genus. However, after molecular research, it has been debated whether or not they should be included in the genus Citrus. Finger limes are both citrus and not. Schrödinger's Citrus, if you will.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose: A fresh nose with sour lemon and sharp limes first, before there’s savoury juniper and the hearty spice of cumin and peppercorn.
Palate: Key lime pie and icing sugar, with touches of Parma violets, fennel, vanilla and a pinch of grapefruit.
Finish: Short, with a slightly perfumed conclusion.
Overall: Fascinating, a truly unusual gin.
