History:
James Sword & Son Ltd was established in 1810, when George III was King, and specialised in the maturation, vatting and bottling of malt whiskies.
The company had one of the largest bottling and blending cellars in Glasgow with warehouses on the river Clyde where the great passenger liners and their cargo set off for all parts of the globe. Throughout its history the company was dedicated to quality and played a prominent and influential role in the Scotch Whisky Industry.
The 19th Century saw long-lasting changes which had a fundamental effect on the whisky industry. These included the introduction of blended whisky whereby different makes of malt were allowed to be blended with grain whisky.
James Sword had an extensive selection of whiskies and was responsible for establishing the Bank Note brand. Today, Bank Note is distributed by descendants of a marriage between two of the great whisky families, the Walkers, who established James Sword and Dewar Rattray, and the Morrisons, renowned for their careful stewardship of the Bowmore, Glen Garioch and Auchentoshan distilleries.
The families’ inherited knowledge and traditional skills passed down through the generations are evident in the distinctive characters of their whiskies.
